The extension and restyling works of the Culture Palace, which have runned over four years, have been carried out by Architecture Studio von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (GMP), with office branches in Asia, Europe and America.
The Project has tried to keep the historical identity of the Palace, in fact, for the restyling , architects have recovered the original project dated 1969.
The result has been a new building whose glass façade invites the city of Dresden to know its inside. The present Culture Palace allocates three large spaces:
- Concerts Room, now with a new acoustic.
- Herkuleskeule Cabaret, a theatre-cabaret with 50 years history.
- Central Library, which has also been renewed.
It is just in this latter space, the Central Library, where we will find the different versions and finishings of our SLAM Chair. This large Project has requested over 500 chairs for the equipment of the library which undoubtly becomes a reference in this kind of cultural spaces.
SLAM Chair and Culture
It is not the first time that SLAM Chair is parte of the library equipment. Also the State's Library in Segovia, San Francisco Library in Pamplona or Pedrezuela's Library have chosen this model for their facilities, the same as other culture centres like Carlos Blanco Aguinaga's Culture Centre.
Versatility is the key of SLAM Chair program success. The multiple combinations of shells and frames allow this system designed by Lievore Altherr Molina, adapting every piece to any kind of installation. Hence, SLAM Chair may be suitable either as a Company chair or as seating for a hospital waiting room. Needless to say that culture centres do also match with SLAM aesthetic.
