The Sever Funeral Home in Zamora is now accessible and efficient

14.06.2022 | Funeral Homes

Today a building is not conceived without the words “efficiency” and “accessibility”, and the Sever Funeral Home in Zamora (Spain) could not be less. The Sever Funeral Services decided to give a 180º turn to its main facilities, those of the Mortuary and Crematorium of the city of Zamora, with an ambitious expansion and remodelling project that has been undertaken by AE Arquitectos.

The result has been a convenient and comfortable building, but above all accessible. The new Mortuary and Crematory now has wake rooms completely adapted for people with reduced mobility.

Energy efficiency was another priority in the new facility. Hence, we are facing a building in which natural lighting and ventilation stand out. Likewise, it has everything necessary to achieve the maximum energy rating (A): insulation thickness, aerothermal air conditioning, LED lighting and electric car chargers for the company's fleet.

All this in a complex surrounded by trees that contrast with the industrial air that it previously had. It is precisely this tremendous transformation that has made AE ”‹”‹Arquitectos win the EX AEQUO AWARD for Architecture of Castilla y León. The award jury described it as a 'milestone of urban renewal and rehabilitation in a degraded industrial environment'.

An unusual room

In the new Mortuary and Crematory of Zamora everything is designed for the well-being and comfort of family members. In this way, each room has different characteristics to adapt to the needs that each family may have: high-capacity rooms for media services; rooms with relaxation areas equipped with reclining armchairs, refrigerator, coffee corner and full bathroom with shower; rooms that allow a multiple wake to be held thanks to a system of mobile partitions... and all of them with natural light.

But if there is a space that stands out, it is the Tribute Room, which breaks with the idea of ”‹”‹a static room and seeks the versatility that is needed today. With capacity for approximately one hundred people, the Tributes Room can act as a conference room, a farewell room for a loved one, an event room and even a large wake room.

The MASS Chair at the Sever Funeral Home in Zamora

It is precisely this space that has been equipped with the MASS Chair that ITEMdesignworks designed for Sellex. Almost a hundred chairs in its Basic version, and in white, which can be stacked up to 40 units on a trolley or 15 on the floor. Both the seat and the backrest are made of polypropylene with a textured finish and are available in any of the standard colours that we offer at Sellex. Likewise, the seat can be upholstered.

Its 'lightness and simplicity' as well as the 'versatility' it provides when reorganizing the space, were the main reasons why Alfredo Estébanez and Eduardo García, from AE Arquitectos, chose the MASS Chair for the installation.

Alfredo explains that on some occasions the room will be diaphanous and on others, it will require a certain number of chairs. Therefore, the fact that MASS offered the possibility of stacking was decisive when making a decision and opting for our chair.

The AERO Bench at the Sever Funeral Home in Zamora

The MASS Chair has not been the only seat for funeral homes and wakes chosen by the architecture and interior design team of Sever. Three AERO Benches have also been installed, with 2 seats each, specifically in various waiting areas of the building. Therefore, from here we want to take the opportunity to thank AE Arquitectos and Sever Funeral Services for the trust placed in Sellex for this project.
