Saint Philibert Hospital: architecture at the service of health and the environment
07.11.2025 | Health
The Saint Philibert Hospital, located in Lomme (France), is entering a new phase thanks to an ambitious renovation and extension project, aiming to reconcile medical excellence with environmental quality.
The project, developed by the firm G.O-Architectes, redefines contemporary hospital architecture by placing the patient at the centre of the process, while maintaining a strong connection with the environment and integrating sustainable development.
In this context, Sellex contributed to the project by installing the BILDU Bench in the waiting areas, providing a solution that combines design, comfort, and functionality, in line with the overall philosophy of the building.
An architecture at the service of medical excellence
The renovation of Saint Philibert Hospital involves a thorough modernisation of its infrastructure and services, without interrupting its healthcare activities. The new complex includes 16 operating rooms, an outpatient surgery unit, completely restructured emergency and intensive care areas, as well as new hospitalisation spaces with 363 beds, many of which are individual.
The project is based on the functional sectorization of surgical units, organised into modules that allow for the adaptation of workflows according to the type and complexity of the interventions. Architecture thus becomes a tool for clinical efficiency, facilitating patient care and the coordination of medical staff in more humane, safer, and brighter environments.
Environmental commitment and energy efficiency
The second major focus of the project lies in its sustainable vision. The renovation of the facades was essential to achieve a bioclimatic envelope that reduces energy consumption and improves the thermal, acoustic, and visual comfort of both patients and professionals.
The suspended facade system, with a metallic exoskeleton and high-performance external thermal insulation, allows for intervention without affecting the rooms and meets the strictest safety standards. The choice of durable and low-maintenance materials reflects the hospital's commitment to energy efficiency and long-term sustainability.
Waiting rooms that convey calm
For common areas and waiting rooms, the project team chose one of our benches for clinics and hospitals, the BILDU Bench.
In total, 12 BILDU four-seater benches with side armrests, grey structure, and natural oak seats were installed. This combination brings warmth and serenity to the clinical environment, contributing to the well-being of patients and their companions.
The design of the BILDU Bench, by Mario Ruiz, combines formal and timeless aesthetics, resistance, and ergonomics adapted to healthcare environments.
BILDU is a modular seating system that allows for compositions of up to six seats, to which it is possible to add armrests and side tables. This ability to configure both individual seats and compact sets makes BILDU an ideal bench for waiting rooms.
It is not the first hospital facility to trust BILDU. The Kalasatama Healthcare Centre in Helsinki, the Girona Clinic or the Corachán in Barcelona, among others, have already opted for this system. The reason is simple: its presence, discreet but elegant, reinforces the impression of order and comfort in the waiting rooms, where every detail counts.
