Bachleitner Surgery Centre, design that inspires trust

09.09.2025 | Health

When it comes to healthcare, spaces speak as much as doctors do. Ordination Chirurgie Mitte (Bachleitner Surgery Centre), in the very heart of Vienna (Austria), demonstrates how interior architecture can convey calmness and trust without the need for artifice.

The studio responsible for the project, PEPPP / Burzi & Gartenmaier Innenarchitektur und Design OG, opted for a sober, harmonious and mindful language that turns a visit to the practice into a serene and welcoming experience.

Interior design in the service of care

PEPPP’s proposal deliberately moves away from the clinical stereotype. Here, white is combined with greenish-grey tones that bring serenity and depth, while the light stone flooring naturally connects all the spaces. Translucent curtains filter the light and add a textile touch that softens the atmosphere.

Lighting is another key element of the project. In corridors and circulation areas, black linear fixtures create a subtle ‘breadcrumb trail’ that guides visitors without the need for overt signage. In contrast, in waiting areas the lamps change tone and geometry, reinforcing their identity as places of pause and transition.

“This Viennese Art Nouveau building called for a calm interior design, able to dialogue with history without imposing upon it,” explain the PEPPP team. This pursuit of the essential, of what endures, guided every design decision.

SLAM, furniture in harmony with the space

In this context of conscious sobriety, our contribution to the project took shape through the SLAM Basic Chair and the SLAM Beam 3 seaters, both in black. A choice that reflects the intention of integration and continuity in the design.

As the PEPPP team points out, “its elegant, clean and unobtrusive design fits perfectly into this historic building, where every element tells its own story.” The black accents of SLAM intertwine with the lighting fixtures and other interior details, contributing to the visual unity of the whole.

Beyond its aesthetic value, the versatility of SLAM has also been key. The chairs have been installed both in waiting areas and in the individual consulting rooms, while the 3 seater benches structure the reception area without losing visual lightness. Comfortable and timeless, they provide a serene presence that does not compete, but rather accompanies.

The result is a medical centre perceived as approachable and safe, where materials, light and furniture work together to inspire trust.

For Sellex, it has been an honour to be part of this project with our seating solutions for clinics and hospitals pieces that integrate seamlessly, bringing order, comfort and coherence. Like the surgical centre itself, our furniture speaks softly, yet leaves a lasting impression.
