The Rumst Library bets on SLAM for the aesthetics of its new facilities

In the case of the Rumst Public Library, the chosen seats are the following: the SLAM Basic Chair; the Pyramidal Chair on castors; the SLAM Lounge Chair and the H65 cm SLAM High Chair. As for the colours, white is the predominant tone, although for some seats the combination of white and Musgo green has been chosen.

More spacious and modern facilities

The old Public Library had ceased to cover essential needs and was in urgent need of a renovation. For this, it was essential to find a new location. The old building in Markt no longer met the essential requirements to be a modern and contemporary library and, in addition, the facilities were too small. This is how it was decided to move the Library to the Sint-Jozef Residential Center in Schoolstraat, where it now has 360 square meters of space to store the more than 37,000 books that are available to users.

Although, as Councillor Raf De Schepper explains, the new Library concept does not focus only on the loan of books and other materials, but also has a social function. 'The new modular design is geared towards that. In this way, we not only create space for the extensive library collection, but also for a cosy reading corner for children and for workshops. ', Explains the councillor.

Until now, the Rumst library received approximately 47,500 visitors by year, but now it is to be expected that more residents will be encouraged to use these modern facilities.

HANDY as auxiliary furniture

The interior architecture of the building has been made by Kultuz, an interior design firm led by Bart Van Boom, who, in addition to trusting SLAM for the project, wanted to include the HANDY Stool (designed by Stephen Philips from Arup for Sellex) in the Library's facilities.

The HANDY stool is perhaps one of our most polyvalent pieces. It is a very versatile auxiliary furniture element that fits perfectly in offices, rest areas, hotels ... and of course in libraries, where collaborative work is very present.

The HANDY stool, made of polypropylene, is available also with a wooden or upholstered pad. On this occasion, the interior design team has chosen the camel-coloured stools and distributed them throughout the entire library, in order to be used as a point of reference. This way, users can take a seat while deciding whether a book is interesting enough to check out.

Another advantage of the HANDY is the fact that it can be stacked up to 20 units, which takes up very little space when they are not being used. It is light and easy to transport, and has a space at the bottom that allows users to have always their belongings close. Without doubt, a very useful piece of auxiliary furniture for this type of installation.
