Tallinn Airport refurbished with the HANDY Stool

14.01.2026 | Airports

Tallinn Airport (Estonia), has completed the refurbishment and expansion of its VIP lounge with the reopening of the new LHV Lounge—a larger, more comfortable and contemporary space designed to respond to growing passenger numbers and the diversity of traveller profiles.

With capacity for up to 200 people, the new lounge enhances the waiting experience by incorporating relaxation areas, workspaces, family zones and an updated food and beverage offer.

Within this context of comprehensive renewal, Sellex takes part in the project through the installation of HANDY Stools, which integrate seamlessly into the VIP lounge interior, contributing to both flexibility and comfort.

Local identity through architecture

The architectural design of the new VIP lounge is based on the winning proposal of the competition launched in 2020 and developed by KAMP Arhitektid, in collaboration with the design agency Velvet for environmental graphics. Compared to the former business lounge, the new space is conceived as a more fluid and open environment, where the rounded forms of the furniture and interior elements facilitate circulation and create a relaxed atmosphere.

One of the key pillars of the project was the use of locally sourced, natural materials. “Inside, we have used valued Estonian wood, natural plaster and limestone from our own land, bringing nature directly into the heart of the airport,” explains Jan Skolimowski, one of the partners at KAMP Arhitektid.

The intervention is also part of an airport with a strong architectural and historical character, which has evolved from its original terminal to contemporary extensions while maintaining a balance between heritage value, functionality and user experience.

HANDY: lightness, flexibility and design

In a space where every square metre counts, the choice of the HANDY Stool—designed by Stephen Philips (Arup)—responded to clear functional and design criteria. As the interior design team explains, the project required a stackable stool, backless, with a contemporary aesthetic and an excellent quality–price ratio, capable of freeing both visual and physical space in a lounge of limited size.

HANDY also fulfils a dual function as both seating and a side table, increasing its versatility in a constantly changing waiting environment. Its lightweight, stackable design allows the space to be easily reorganised according to immediate needs, while maintaining a tidy and timeless appearance.

With its discreet presence and adaptability, HANDY integrates naturally into the new Tallinn Airport VIP lounge, complementing an architectural approach focused on enhancing the travel experience—without seeking prominence, yet adding clear value to the overall setting.
