Sturdy waiting benches for Simonis Metro Station
07.10.2020

The VACANTE Bench, designed by Enric Miralles for SELLEX, is in charge of receiving travellers who pass through the Simonis Metro Station in Brussels (Belgium). This bench was chosen mainly for its robustness and for being extremely durable.
The model chosen to preside the renovated facilities of the station is the 4-seater bench with 3 stainless steel arms that guarantee sufficient distance between users. The VACANTE waiting bench can be anchored to the floor or left suspended (by tying it to the wall, without the need for legs). On this occasion, both versions have been chosen and we find some benches fixed to the floor and others wall hanging.
Concerning the materials, the station opted for the VACANTE in stainless steel as it is the one that requires the simplest maintenance and the one that best withstands inclement weather.
The sober and timeless design of VACANTE has been fundamental in the choice of this version as it integrates effortlessly with the modern look of the Simonis Station.
A subway with a lot of history
The metro has always had a strong identity link with Brussels, and its tram network has a long history after having already celebrated its 150th anniversary.
Line 9 passes through Simonis Station, which takes about 15 minutes to reach Abre Ballon, passing by the UZ Brussel hospital. It is a very complete station that houses train, metro and tram stops and that in 2018 inaugurated its renovated facilities.
The station complex is located at the end of Boulevard Léopold II and is close to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. His name, Simonis, pays homage to the Place Eugéne Simonis, which takes its name from the Belgian sculptor Eugenio Simonis.
SELLEX is honoured that a station with so much history has had one of our most robust passenger terminal seating benches.
