The Rekalde Berri Funeral Home responds to this shift with a clear intention: to offer a place where farewell becomes personal, adapting to different beliefs and ways of remembering.

Located in Donostia–San Sebastián (Spain), in a well-connected setting, the funeral home integrates accessibility, technological innovation and particular attention to emotional support. The multi-faith room and the immersive space for personalised ceremonies reflect a broader understanding of what these environments require today: intimacy, flexibility and respect. This approach also responds to a shift in use, where architecture adapts to new ways of being present and offering support.

Designing for presence and continuity

In this context, furniture becomes part of the spatial experience — not as a leading element, but as something that accompanies it. The BILDU Bench, designed by Mario Ruiz for Sellex, was selected for its ability to respond to the needs of the project while ensuring long-term viability.

Sixteen six-seat wooden benches accompany the moment of farewell, forming part of a broader understanding of seating in funeral environments.

In places like this, design does not seek to stand out, but to endure — supporting the experience of those who inhabit the space and giving room to what truly matters.
