Contemporary urbanism in the Micropolis of Monterrey

07.01.2025 | Hospitality

The Micropolis of Monterrey is a multi-use architectural complex that combines housing, commerce and offices, designed to meet the needs of an urban, sustainable and modern lifestyle.

Located south of Monterrey (Mexico), it integrates essential services in an accessible space, promoting coexistence, work and leisure in a dynamic and functional environment.

With a residential tower of 154 apartments, innovative commercial areas and an infrastructure that includes offices and first-class amenities, Micropolis represents an example of contemporary urbanism. The project seeks to create a connection between daily life and the natural environment, highlighting its views of the iconic Cerro de la Silla and promoting a comprehensive lifestyle that responds to the needs of new generations and diverse demographic groups.

The architect Javier Sánchez was the one who developed the concept of Micropolis as a solution to carry out activities “without depending on the car.” The founder of JS Arquitectura firmly believes in the idea that having access to different services, such as restaurants, shops and offices, within a walking radius is what gives a home a sense of sustainable urbanism, and its inhabitants a feeling of close community.

'Years ago we did not hesitate to live within the city or to have services inside the buildings,' he adds. This is how Sánchez develops the concept of “small urban centres” in Micropolis.

The NEST Chair in the Micropolis dining room

The Micropolis project was launched in 2014 and since then it has been incorporating improvements to make it even more attractive. One of those improvement actions was the remodelling of the dining room focused on making changes to the ceilings and furniture in general. Nolah Acabados was the one who took care of this renovation and, as their Project Manager, Adriana Díaz, explains to us, they chose the NEST Chair for the remodelling because of its design and ergonomics since “it is a really comfortable chair.” In fact, if there is something that NEST stands out for, it is for being a seat that adapts to the back of each user thanks to its intelligent backrest. This design is the work of designer Jordi Pla, who defines the NEST Chair as “the nest that adapts to you.” That's why it is so comfortable.

Another aspect that, as Adriana details, was key in the choice of furniture is the versatility of NEST, something that allowed the chairs to be installed, both in the dining room and in one of the adjoining meeting rooms.

The version of the NEST Chair chosen for this installation was the NEST Basic Chair with white frame and shell in different colours, some pieces in camel brown and others in musgo green. Likewise, another NEST model was included, the NEST Pyramidal on 4 Castors Chair, also with white frame and the shell in camel brown, this time with upholstered seat pad. It was this second model that was installed in the meeting room mentioned above.

Both models already look like the quintessential representation of contemporary urbanism.
