The Hotel Pessoa Lisbon takes us to 19th century Portugal

11.01.2024 | Hospitality

Staying at the Hotel Pessoa Lisbon is like traveling back in time to Portugal at the end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century. And it does so through the eyes of the famous Portuguese poet and writer Fernando Pessoa. The Lux Hotels chain inaugurated this emblematic building in 2016 with the idea of offering its guests a “journey to the universe of Pessoa”, and with a minimalist and sober design concept, the architects of the Portuguese studio Promontório achieved it.

Walking through its 9 floors and 75 rooms is like traveling to the Portugal of the time. Every corner of the hotel breathes the essence of the interior of the buildings of that time and takes us to the life and work of Pessoa, who not only gives its name to the Hotel itself. Each of the floors of the building has been designated a title that remembers the poet. The top floor, for example, has been called “Mensagem”, a collection of poems about the great Portuguese historical figures. It was one of his most notable works, and the only one that was published during his lifetime.

Floors zero and one have the name of the heteronymous “Álvaro de Campos” and the library “Bernardo Soares” is a clear allusion to his assistant bookkeeper. The reception is located on the second floor and represents the starting point of this journey through Pessoa's life. In fact, it is the apartment named after the author, where some of his most precious works and objects are located, such as his typewriter.

The third floor is that of “Alberto Caeiro”, the guardian of flocks and there are many notes that refer to nature, while the fourth floor, “Ricardo Reis”, is that of the poet of romanticism and carpe diem, so which is the most romantic.

The 4-star hotel also has two meeting rooms, a 48-space garage, a library, spa, gym and the “Mensagem” panoramic restaurant and bar, with capacity for 68 people. In the latter, its chef Manuel Ferreira presents several gastronomic proposals that seek to complement the experience of the Pessoa universe.

SLAM and FAST join the “Pessoa” trip

It is an honour to be able to say that Sellex furniture is part of this peculiar journey through the life and work of Pessoa. The interior design team of the project looked at our SLAM Chair (designed by Lievore Altherr Molina) and our FAST Table (designed by Carlos Tíscar) to equip both the Bernardo Soares Library, with capacity for 45 people, and other multipurpose rooms.

Specifically, the Hotel Pessoa Lisbon has three meeting rooms, located on the ground floor, capable of hosting events of all kinds, from corporate meetings to training sessions, exhibitions, social and cultural events, etc.

This multi-functionality of the different rooms requires multipurpose furniture like the one chosen on this occasion: FAST is a folding and removable table that allows the use of a single frame with tops of different shapes and dimensions. A perfect system for rooms like these that host different events. For its part, SLAM is a chair that can be stacked in up to 8 units, making it easier to store when they are not going to be used.

At Sellex we have customized solutions to equip multipurpose spaces, both with stackable chairs for multipurpose spaces and with folding tables for events and hospitality. Furniture that ultimately allows occupying the minimum amount of space. You just have to contact us and we will help you find the system that best suits the needs of your installation.
